The roar of a sold-out stadium, the glow of high-resolution screens, and the nerves of athletes who have trained since childhood — the Seoul 2026 Esports Olympics is unlike anything the sporting world has seen before.
Seven titles have been approved for competition, including a dedicated strategy game developed specifically for the Games by an international consortium of developers. Prize prestige, not money, is on offer — a deliberate choice by the IOC to emphasize the athletic spirit over commercial excess.
South Korea's national team, widely regarded as the world's most technically advanced, enters as favourite in four of the seven disciplines. The country's government invested heavily in training infrastructure over the past three years, building dedicated performance centres in Busan and Incheon.
"Esports requires the same dedication as any other sport — reflexes, strategy, teamwork, and mental resilience," said team captain Park Ji-hoon. "We are ready to show the world."
