System Mail

No API key needed · Uses your mail app

What is System Mail?

System Mail uses your device's built-in mail app (iOS Mail, Gmail, Outlook, etc.) to send alert digests. No API key required, no account setup — just your existing email app. NewsLyfe composes a clean, readable email and hands it off to your mail client.

📱
Zero setup. If you have any email app installed on your phone, System Mail works out of the box. No API keys, no registration, completely free.

How It Works

When a digest is ready to send, NewsLyfe opens your device's default mail app with a pre-composed message. The email is formatted as clean plain text for maximum compatibility across all mail clients.

01

Make sure you have a mail app

iOS Mail, Gmail, Outlook, or any other mail app needs to be installed and configured with at least one email account.

02

Enable System Mail in NewsLyfe

Open NewsLyfe app → Settings → Email Alerts → System Mail. Set your recipient email address and save.

03

Allow mail permissions (first time)

On the first send, your device may ask for permission to open the mail app. Tap Allow to proceed.

04

Review and send

The mail app opens with the digest pre-filled. You can review it and tap Send. On some configurations this happens automatically.

Pricing & Limits

Uses your existing email account. No API costs, no limits imposed by NewsLyfe.

Limitsno API limits

Only your email provider's sending limits apply (typically thousands per day for personal accounts).

Troubleshooting

📭

Mail app doesn't open

Make sure a mail app is installed and set up with an account. On iOS, go to Settings → Mail → Accounts and verify at least one account is configured.

🔒

Permission denied

NewsLyfe needs permission to open your mail app. Go to your device's Settings → NewsLyfe → Permissions and make sure mail access is allowed.

✉️

Email requires manual send

System Mail opens your mail app with the email pre-composed — you may need to tap Send manually. This is normal behavior on iOS when using the native mail compose screen.

Security & Privacy

System Mail is the most private option — no third-party service involved. Your email content goes directly through your own email provider.

🛡️
No third-party API. Your alert content is sent via your own email account — no external email service has access to your data.
🔑
No API key needed. There's nothing to protect or rotate. Just your existing email account credentials, which stay in your mail app.
📵
Works offline. The email is queued by your mail app and sent when you're connected. No dependency on external services.
