Italian military infrastructure

Italy's military infrastructure is centered on a network of army, air force and naval bases supporting territorial defence, air and maritime security, military readiness and operations in the Mediterranean. Italy's geographic position gives its armed forces particular importance in the Mediterranean, while its NATO membership also places many Italian installations within the wider Alliance defence system.

Italian bases serve different functions depending on their location and service. Air bases support combat aircraft, transport and surveillance operations; naval bases support fleet operations and maritime security; and army installations provide training, logistics and support for land forces. The facilities listed here are Italian military installations, while Italy's separate overseas deployments and multinational missions are documented independently where Italian forces operate from facilities belonging to or shared with other countries.
