Conflict Zones

How the Conflict Zones layer works on the Newslyfe map — intensity, exploring a zone, and live data.

What is the Conflict Zones layer?

The Conflict Zones layer highlights areas of active conflict directly on the map, so you can see at a glance where things are happening in the world right now.

How conflict zones are displayed

Each conflict zone is painted as a shaded area with a colored outline, positioned over the affected region or country on the map.

Understanding intensity

Zones are color-coded by intensity, so you can tell the scale of a situation at a glance:

  • Red — critical
  • Orange — high
  • Yellow — medium
  • Blue — low

Exploring a conflict zone

Tap a zone to open a detail card with its location, the parties involved, an overview, key developments, and available casualty and displacement figures where reported.

Turning the layer on and off

Open the layer panel from the map toolbar to show or hide the Conflict Zones layer, along with any other layers you want visible.

Dynamic conflict data

The active conflict zones shown on the map change over time as new events and conflicts emerge and existing situations evolve.
