What is Brevo?

Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) is a European email service provider with a generous free tier. It's EU-based, GDPR-compliant, and supports transactional emails via API key. NewsLyfe uses the Brevo v3 API (xkeysib- keys) to send alert digests directly from your device.

Quick Start

Create a Brevo account

Go to brevo.com and sign up for a free account. No credit card required.

Generate an API key

In the Brevo dashboard, go to Settings → API Keys and click Generate a new API key. The key will start with xkeysib-. Copy it immediately — it's only shown once.

Verify your sender email

Go to Senders & IP → Senders in the Brevo dashboard. Add and verify the email address you want to send from. Brevo requires sender verification before sending.

Add the key to NewsLyfe

Open NewsLyfe app → Settings → Email Alerts → Brevo. Paste your API key (xkeysib-...), set your sender and recipient email, and save.

Send a test email

Tap Send Test Email to verify the setup is working correctly.

Removes the daily sending limit. For personal alert use, the free tier is more than sufficient.

300 emails/day is a lot.If NewsLyfe sends one alert digest per hour, that's 24 emails per day — just 8% of the free tier limit. Even with Instantly frequency you'd stay well within limits.

Troubleshooting

401

Unauthorized / Invalid API Key

The API key is incorrect. Make sure you copied the full key starting with xkeysib-. Verify the key in Brevo dashboard under Settings → API Keys.

400

Sender not verified

The sender email address hasn't been verified in Brevo. Go to Senders & IP → Senders and complete the verification for your sender address.

429

Daily sending limit reached

You've hit the 300 emails/day free tier limit. Sending will resume the next day. Consider setting a less frequent digest interval in NewsLyfe.

Email going to spam

Add your sender email to your contacts, or mark a Brevo email as "Not Spam". You can also set up a custom domain in Brevo to improve deliverability.

Security & Privacy

Your Brevo API key and email address are stored only on your device. NewsLyfe sends directly to the Brevo API — the NewsLyfe backend never sees your credentials.

Protect your xkeysib- key. If you suspect it was exposed, delete it immediately in the Brevo dashboard and generate a new one.

GDPR compliant. Brevo is headquartered in France and processes data under EU data protection laws. No data about your email recipients is stored on NewsLyfe servers.

Local storage only.Your key is stored in the app's local storage. Uninstalling the app removes it completely.
