What is Google Gemini?

Google Gemini is Google's latest AI model family. NewsLyfe uses it to summarize news articles, extract key points, and answer questions about what you're reading. Gemini 1.5 Flash is the recommended model — it's fast, capable, and has a generous free tier.

Quick Start

Go to Google AI Studio

Open ai.google.dev and sign in with your Google account.

Get an API key

Click Get API key → Create API key. Select an existing Google Cloud project or create a new one. Copy the generated key.

Add to NewsLyfe

Open NewsLyfe → Settings → AI → Select Gemini. Paste your API key and save.

400

Invalid API Key

The key was entered incorrectly or has been deleted. Go to ai.google.dev and check your API keys.

429

Rate Limit Exceeded

You've hit the free tier's 15 requests/minute limit. Wait a moment and try again, or enable billing for higher limits.

403

API Not Enabled

The Generative Language API isn't enabled for your project. Go to Google Cloud Console → APIs & Services → Library and enable it.

API Key Security

Stored locally only. Your API key is saved on your device and never sent to NewsLyfe's servers. It goes directly to Google's API.

Set a budget alert. In Google Cloud Console → Billing → Budgets & Alerts, set a $1 limit so you're never surprised.
